Celtic's miserable away form in the Champions League continued as they lost 2-1 away to Aalborg in Denmark.
It is now 18 away games in the group stages of the tournament without victory for Gordon Strachan's side.
Defeat in Denmark was all the more crushing as it means that Celtic are guaranteed to finish bottom of their group and will not now be able to able to qualify for the Uefa Cup.
Celtic opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Mark Wilson crossed from the left and Gary Robson met the cross with a firm downward header.
At that stage Celtic's European season was very much alive, as victory would have assured qualification for the Uefa Cup, while the scoreline between Villareal and Manchester United meant that there was still a very slim chance of the Glasgow side reaching the last 16.
The couldn't hold their lead, however, and the home side equalised with 17 minutes to go.
Caca was afforded far too much time outside the box and his long-range shot took a deflection off Stephen McManus and looped over Arthur Boruc in the Celtic goal.
Aalborg's winner came and again was a defensive catastrophe.
Glenn Loovens' attempted clearance came back off Gary Caldwell.
It was a cruel end to the game for Celtic, for whom defeat on the road is an all too familiar feeling.
