Canada's ruling Conservative party has been re-elected to government, early results show.
The party, led by prime minister Stephen Harper, won 143 seats but still fell short of the 155 needed to form a parliamentary majority.
As a result, Canada will have its third minority government in four years, although the opposition Liberal party, led by Stephane Dion, lost ground on the Conservatives, winning only 78 seats, a loss of more than 15.
Mr Harper called the snap election back in September in an attempt to gain an overall majority within the Canadian parliament.
According to the Elections Canada website, initial results show the Conservatives taking 38 per cent of the vote with the Liberal party securing 26.3 per cent.
