A Brazilian man accused of the murder of a British teenager Cara Marie Burke has claimed to have been high on cocaine at the time of her killing.
Speaking from inside his jail cell, Mohamed D'Ali Carvalho Santos, 20, said he did not remember much of what happened on the night as he had used too much of the drug.
Mr Santos is accused of dismembering the torso of Ms Burke before dumping it in a river inside a suitcase. The corpse of the 17-year-old was found on July 25th in the city of Goiania, Brazil, and two days later he confessed to the crime.
Police said the crime had been committed as Cara had threatened to inform Mr Santos' parents that he was a drug peddler who was addicted to cocaine.
After his arrest, the suspect said he had sent photographs of him committing the killing to a friend in England. He also stated that the act of cutting a body open was "just like cutting beef, except for the bleeding".
Cara's body has been identified by the family. They are yet to publicly speak about her death.
