Search for missing body parts of British teenager found in suitcase in Brazil
Police officers in Brazil are searching for the missing body parts of a British teenager found in a suitcase in Brazil.
The remains of a Cara Marie Burke, 17, were found by a riverbank in Goiania after she was killed by her boyfriend, police have said.
Mohammed D'Ali Carvalho Santos, 20, has been charged with her murder after allegedly confessing to killing the teenager from Wandsworth, south London.
Reports claim Mr Santos stabbed the 17-year-old to death after she threatened to tell his parents he was a drug dealer and addicted to cocaine.
It is claimed he met Miss Burke when living in London and that she had refused to marry him, despite his desire to acquire a British passport.
State police inspector Jorge Moreira da Silva said that the teenager's body had been identified by distinctive tattoos on her body.
Police and fire crews are still searching for her head, arms and the lower parts of her legs.
The Foreign Office said in a statement: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Goiania in Brazil. The body was discovered early on Tuesday.
"Next of kin have been informed and we are providing consular assistance to the family."
