England team manager Martin Johnson has recalled former captain Phil Vickery in place of prop Matt Stevens for Saturday's autumn international against Australia.

In the second of two changes to the side that eased past the Pacific Islands 39-13 at Twickenham last weekend, Tom Palmer comes into the second row in place of Nick Kennedy.

London Irish lock Kennedy misses out on the matchday 22 altogether, despite scoring a try on his first England appearance, with Simon Shaw taking Palmer's place on the bench.

However, fellow debutants Delon Armitage, Riki Flutey and Ugo Monye retain their spots at full-back, centre and on the wing, respectively.

In selecting a tried and tested front five against the Australians, Johnson has indicated that he expects a genuine challenge from the Wallabies' powerful scrummaging unit.

The manager has kept faith with the relatively inexperienced back row of flankers Tom Croft and Tom Rees, with Nick Easter retaining the number eight shirt.

The pairing of Wasps fly-half Danny Cipriani and Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care, both 21, will continue their development after impressing last Saturday.
