Warrington Wolves have confirmed they have signed Richie Mathers after he was released by the Wigan Warriors.
Mathers was let go by the Warriors after earlier in the day former Warrington favourite Martin Gleeson moved to the JJB Stadium for a fee thought to be in the region of £125,000.
It is the third time Mathers has signed for the Wolves as he played for them as a teenager and also had a loan spell at the club in 2002 before moving on to the Leeds Rhinos where he spent five years and played in a Grand Final.
The 25-year-old also spent a season playing in Australia with the Gold Coast Titans, before moving back to Super League with Wigan. But he failed to settle with the Warriors and only made 24 appearances.
Mathers will now team-up with his former Leeds coach Tony Smith, who recently took over at Warrington.
"I'm really looking forward to reuniting my association with Richard as I found him a real pleasure to coach and I look forward to helping him return to some of the form he has shown in the past," said Smith.
"I think he can be a real valuable asset to the club not only on the field but off the field in areas such as his training methods.
"He is a whole hearted trainer and sets an example to those around him which will be great for the young players within the club."
