Carlos Tevez has revealed that he hopes to agree terms on a permanent deal at Manchester United before the end of the season.
The 24-year-old Argentine signed a two-year loan deal at Old Trafford in August 2007 from West Ham, which cost United an initial £10 million with an option for a permanent move at the end of that spell.
Tevez has now revealed that he hopes to tie up that contract before the season is out.
"From the moment I came here I wanted to sign a longer contract," said Tevez.
"It would be wonderful if the chairman put a long term contract on the table for me. I would sign it without doubt."
His views are echoed by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who expects him to remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer of 2009, when his loan deal expires.
"There's no doubt in my mind that he will be here next season after signing a contract," insisted Ferguson.
"As I understand it, it (a permanent deal) will happen at the end of the season."
Tevez could cost United in the region of £32 million, which would break their record fee which currently stands at the £30.75 million paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in August.
The Argentina international scored 19 goals in 48 matches last season to help the United win the Premier League and Champions League.
