Warrington ended Wigan's five game winning streak after a dramatic 22-20 victory at the Halliwell-Jones stadium in Super League.
A penalty from Lee Briers, who kicked five goals, in the 78th minute gave the Wolves the win after a late try from full back Chris Ashton and a goal from Mark Dobson had levelled the scores.
After trailing 10-2 at the break, Brian Noble's side mounted a fightback with two goals from scrum half Dobson after Danny Tickle's first half try.
Dobson kicked four goals as Scott O'McLoughlin set the Warriors on their way before Ashton's herioics.
The hosts were cruising after first half tries from record signing Martin Gleeson and New Zealander Toa Kohe-Love.
The win sees the Wolves remain in fifth place and reduce the gap to four points from champions Bradford.
The Warriors, who had won their last five matches before today, are still six points off the playoffs with six games remaining.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield overtook Castleford in the table after a 34-10 victory over the Tigers at the Galpharm stadium.
Tries from hooker Brad Drew, second row Andy Raleigh, Kevin Brown and prop Jim Gannon gave the hosts a second consecutive win.
Chris Nero and Martin Aspinwell added further tries late in the game as the Tigers had no answer to the Giants forward play.
The Tigers trailed 12-10 at the break with first half tries from forward Deon Bird and Australian Adam Fletcher before an onslaught from the Giants.
Aussie Michael De Vere kicked four goals as Huddersfield scored 26 unanswered second half points.
