This year's contestants on Love Island have hardly set TV screens alight with raucous activity and entertaining gossip.

Alicia's dramatic exit and Sophie's tears over anything and everything have been the height of excitement so far, yet the arrival of Steve-O from the wacky programme Jackass looks set to change all of that.

Since landing on the island Steve-O has managed to insult Brendan, wind up Shane and really annoy Sophie.

"This guy loves the sound of his own voice, he's unbearable and he's done my head in, he's so opinionated. I can't stand him," Sophie whined to Shane.

After Brendan ran around after the islanders in an apron to help with dinner, Steve-O managed to put Brendan's back up by asking if he was gay. Macho man Shane then attempted to soothe the situation in an embarrassing display of faux-manliness.

If viewers were in any doubt of Steve-O's nationality then his cheesy response worthy of any American drama would clear up the confusion.

"What I said to Brendan was belittling and inappropriate and a bad way to say thank you for serving me dinner, I feel very humbled, I want to say thank you," he deadpanned.

Fellow new Islander Paul Danan, who returned to the island this week after being the unquestionably most entertaining 'celeb' last year, is also rocking the boat and driving a wedge between Leo and Bianca.

With falling viewing figures, producers will no doubt be keeping their fingers crossed for as much entertainment and controversy as the two men can rustle up – and it doesn't look like they'll be complaining.
