Scotland captain Jason White has emerged as an injury concern for the start of the 2009 Six Nations after undergoing surgery on a dislocated finger.
The Sale Sharks flanker sustained the injury in the early stages of his side's 31-3 victory over Wasps at Edgeley Park on Boxing Day, but played on for the rest of the game - and winning the man-of-the-match award - despite being in severe pain.
Sale director of rugby Philippe Saint Andre declined to put any length of time on White's rehabilitation, although it is thought he may be a doubt for Scotland's opening match of the spring international tournament against Wales on February 8th.
"It was a bad injury and he has had surgery to repair the damage," Saint Andre explained.
"It shows how much Jason is a team man in that he played for 75 minutes in pain but refused to be replaced. We will miss him."
Meanwhile there was better news for a number of Sale's other long-term injury victims, with Sean Cox now back in training and Lee Thomas, Sebastien Bruno and Kristian Ormsby being described as "not far away" from a return.
However, young Prop Martin Halsall has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
