Ferrari's Michael Schumacher has said he wants to take his title back from current drivers champion Fernando Alonso.
The Renault driver collected his first championship last year after beating the German to the crown, meaning the seven-time champion had to give up his title after dominating the sport the previous year.
However, with both drivers now competing for this year's Formula One crown, the 37-year-old insists he wants his title back.
"I don't think that I have to state how charged up we are and I believe that it is clear for all to see," Schumacher said.
"Our competitive spirit has been reawakened and we want the title."
Schumacher currently trails the Spaniard by 17 points after consecutive wins in America and France and he will be hoping to close that gap even further when he returns to his homeland for this weekend's German grand prix.
He is hoping that the home crowd will be his inspiration when he races at Hockenheim and they will help him rein in Alonso in the championship.
"The psychological effect of driving here is huge as I always receive great support from our fans at Hockenheim and this lasts for the entire weekend," Schumacher added.
"We want to turn the championship red and Hockenheim ought to be the next step as naturally we also need the supporters on our side as they are very important."
Ferrari will also be hoping to close the gap on Renault in the constructors' championship, with Flavio Briatore's team currently leading by 21 points.
