Rangers have lost top spot in the SPL after suffering a shock 1-0 loss to St Mirren at Love Street.

A sensational strike from Stephen McGinn on 77 minutes gave the home side their first win over the Glasgow giants in 22 years.

The substitute curled in a shot from 20 yards past Allan McGregor to move St Mirren off the bottom of the table and into eighth place.

Walter Smith's men dominated possession with Kris Boyd hitting the post and having a header cleared off the line by Kyle Lafferty.

Rangers' first defeat of the season means they are level on points with leaders Celtic but have an inferior goal difference.

Elsewhere, Motherwell defeated Falkirk 3-2 at Fir Park.

Jamie Murphy's strike on 12 minutes for the home side was cancelled out by Steve Lovell's equaliser on 22 minutes.

But 60 seconds later, Motherwell regained the lead when keeper Robert Olejnik spilled the ball which allowed gifting Chris Porter a tap-in.

Ex-Arsenal striker Graham Barratt equalized for Falkirk on 48 minutes but seven minutes later John Sutton clinched victory for the hosts with a header.
