Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl has remained the number one single in the US for the sixth week in a row.

The controversial single held off the challenge of Rihanna's Take A Bow to keep the Barbadian in second for the fourth consecutive week.

Rihanna's boyfriend Chris Brown retained the number three spot with Forever while her own track Disturbia climbed 11 places to number four.

Coldplay and Leona Lewis remain in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 at five and nine respectively.

In the albums chart, teen star Miley Cyrus debuted at number one with her new album Breakout, which shipped 371,000 copies in the US to achieve the second-biggest opening week of 2008 for a female artist, according to industry monitors Nielsen Soundscan.

Country duo Sugarland achieved their highest-ever chart position as the deluxe version of their Love On The Inside opened at number two while the soundtrack to Mamma Mia! sold 168,000 copies to retain the number three spot.

Last week's number one, Untitled by Nas, fell seven places to number eight.
