Dido has admitted to enrolling in music classes in California while recording her new album.
The singer, who has sold more than 20 million albums, revealed she took classes in music and English at the University of California in Los Angeles, her home while recording her new album.
"I just wanted to use my brain," she told the BBC, adding that fellow class members had not initially recognised her.
"No-one noticed. It's great, no one ever does. I don't go out of my way to be noticed, but I wasn't wearing a fake beard or anything," the White Flag star joked.
"I went to study some orchestration stuff because I got so inspired working with all the orchestras," she continued.
"I would go off a couple of evenings a week and come back to the studio completely fired and with my brain in a completely different place.
"It's actually amazing because you go so far into another side of your brain when you're studying something completely different, and I loved it."
The 36-year-old, real name Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong, has been working with producer Jon Brion on Safe Trip Home, her first album for five years.
The album is released on November 17th but will be preceded by a single entitled Don't Believe in Love, which was leaked online last month.
Dido said the track, released today, was one of the "more misunderstood" songs of her career.
"I want it to mean whatever anyone wants it to mean," she added.
