A British soldier killed in southern Afghanistan has been identified as a liaison officer working with the Afghan army.
Captain Sean Dolan of 1st Battalion, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, was killed by Taliban forces on Saturday morning.
He was involved in fighting near the village of Qaleh-e-Gaz, Helmand province, where Taliban fighters had been setting up a "possible ambush site", according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Capt Dolan received his fatal injury as coalition troops attempted to destroy a vehicle which had been damaged in an explosion.
Coalition soldiers had been trying to ensure that the vehicle could not be taken by Taliban fighters.
"He was acting as a liaison officer between the Battalion and a joint US task force and Afghan national army operation in an area south-west of Sangin, northern Helmand province," an MoD spokesperson said.
Capt Dolan was the 62nd UK military personnel to be killed in Afghanistan.
A 63rd UK soldier, from 19 Regiment Royal Artillery, was killed in the volatile south of the war-torn country yesterday.
The soldier, who has not yet been named, died when his patrol was attacked as it left the town of Gereshk, Helmand province.
Taliban militants attacked with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades, the MoD said, with the resulting explosion of the patrol's vehicle resulting in five casualties.
