Princes William and Harry visit injured troops
Princes William and Harry have visited injured military personnel at a rehabilitation centre today.

The royal pair met with the troops at the Defence Medical Services Rehabilitation Centres in Surrey.

The visit came ahead of next month's City Salute Appeal.

The appeal was launched last month and aims to celebrate the UK armed forces and their families and will aim to raise money for the centre for a new physiotherapy sports complex and swimming pool.

During the visit, Prince Harry met with an injured serviceman who had been on the same flight as him back from Afghanistan.

Marine Ben McBean, 21, lost an arm and a leg after a mine exploded while he was out on patrol.

Marine Mark Ormond, 24, who lost both legs and an arm after stepping on a mine on patrol also met the royal pair.

He praised the princes for their visit and singled out Prince Harry for having first-hand experience of life on the front line.

"He's been out there and he's seen and done it. They are both quite involved and they don't just sit on the sidelines. It makes a difference to us rather than having someone who hasn't experienced it, it makes them more genuine," he said.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) released a statement praising the work of the centre and the new appeal.

"Headley Court Rehabilitation Centre provides first class rehabilitation care to our troops and to maintain this we are investing constantly in staff, facilities, patient welfare and treatments," the MoD said.

"The MoD welcomes the City Salute initiative as an opportunity to celebrate the contribution and dedication of our Armed Forces. The offer of extra funding through City Salute is very welcome and will allow us to further improve the already excellent standards of care at Headley Court.

"Charitable funding has played a key part in the welfare support of the Armed Forces for almost a century, giving the public and corporate donors the opportunity to demonstrate their appreciation of our troops."End of story
