Al-Qaida calls for attacks on US and Israeli interests

The Al-Qaida leader also criticised Arab leaders for not opposing Israel
Al-Qaida has called for attacks on US and Israeli interests around the world in a new audio tape made available on its website.

The terrorist organisation's second-in-command Ayman Zawahiri follows the release of speeches last week claimed to be from the group's leader, Osama Bin Laden. In those messages, the head of Al-Qaida called for attacks on Europe in response to the republication of cartoons insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

In the latest message, which carries the logo of the group's media wing, Mr Zawahiri urged Muslims to attack the interests of states allied with Israel.

He said: "Muslims, today is your day. Strike the interests of the Jews, the Americans, and all those who participated in the attack on Muslims. Monitor the targets, collect money, prepare the equipment, plan with precision, and then — while relying on God — assault, seeking martyrdom and paradise."

"Today there is no room for he who says that we should only fight the Jews in Palestine. Let us strike their interests everywhere, just like they gathered against us from everywhere," the deputy to Bin Laden said.

He also vowed to retaliate against "every dollar they spend in the killing of the Muslims" and warned that he would not let allies of Israel "live in peace" while the people of Palestine suffered.

In his speech the Al-Qaida leader made references to the recent blockade of the Gaza Strip and criticised Arab leaders such as Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak for allegedly cooperating with the Jewish state

The speech comes as US vice-president Dick Cheney completes a tour of the Middle East which has seen him pay visits to Iraq, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. Yesterday, Mr Cheney also met with Israeli and Palestinian leaders to discuss the relaunch of the peace process.End of story
