Five held over killing of Shakilus Townsend

16-year-old Shakilus Townsend was the 18th teenager to be killed in the capital this year after being stabbed in south London
Five people have been arrested in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend in south London on Friday.

Four males, aged 16, 17, 18 and 22 as well as one 16-year-old female were arrested.

Police said four of the arrests were made on Sunday morning and one last night at 21:00 BST.

All five remain in custody at various south London police stations, officers said.

Townsend became the 18th teenager to be killed in London this year after dying from stab wounds. He was found at a block of flats on Beulah Crescent in Thornton Heath, south London, at 14:00 BST on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries just after midnight on Friday. Detectives have now arrested three males and one female over the murder.

The age and identities of those held are yet to be released while the four suspects remain in custody at two police stations in south London.

Many incidents of violent crime were reported this week starting with the killing of another 16-year-old, Ben Kinsella, who was stabbed to death in Islington. Two students from France were also found dead with hundreds of stab wounds to their body.End of story
