Republic of Ireland coach Steve Staunton has today named two uncapped players in his 25-man squad for the approaching Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
West Brom defender Paul McShane, 20, and Preston's Sean St Ledger, 21, have both received call-ups while Charlton winger Andy Reid and Ipswich Town striker Alan Lee are both recalled after recovering from injury.
Staunton, who will watch the game against Cyprus from the stands after being banned by Uefa's control and disciplinary body, said McShane in particular had a major role to play in the future.
"Paul is a no-nonsense defender and if we're looking to build over the next four years, which I want to do, he's someone we hope can do well for us," he said.
"He's done well for our under-21 side but also at West Brom since he went there. He playing and is coping well. He's a solid defender who will score goals from set-plays."
Shay Given is the one main omission from the squad after he sustained a stomach injury that required surgery during Newcastle's recent meeting with West Ham.
Ireland play Cyprus in Nicosia on October 7th, followed four days later with a home fixture against the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road.
