Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov scored his first goal for Tottenham as the north London side eased to a 2-0 win over Sheffield United at White Hart Lane.
The £10.9 million summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen opened his account after just nine minutes as Spurs killed off their opponents with a rampant first half display.
Berbatov slotted home after England international Aaron Lennon had darted to the by-line and crossed low for an easy tap-in.
Any hopes that Sheffield United might have had of following up their opening-day draw against Liverpool with another positive result against one of the Premiership glamour sides were extinguished by Jermaine Jenas's first goal of the season on 19 minutes.
Berbatov turned provider cushioning a header from Robbie Keane's long ball into the midfielder's path for the second.
Tottenham never looked like surrendering their early lead as Sheffield United secured their defensive line but never looked in danger of scoring themselves.
Indeed it was Paddy Kenny who was the busier of the two goalkeepers as the game drew to a close, saving well from Jermaine Defoe and Edgar Davids as Tottenham pressed forward in the last 10 minutes.
