Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder says that the fixture pile-up is not a problem as his side take on Sheffield United in the Premiership this evening, their second game in three days.
Roeder said that he was aware of the congestion as early as July but had no qualms about playing the game, as he would rather have too many games than too few, and he felt it was an indicator of their cup success.
He said: "It is not ideal playing again in 48 hours, but that is the situation and we will take a positive approach and prepare for the game."
The Magpies' boss said that his task would be made a lot easier if he had a fully fit squad to choose from although he could call on Damien Duff, Stephen Carr and Scott Parker who are available again having missed the midweek game with Palermo.
He also said that the team had travelled back to Newcastle the night before the game having trained in Italy on Friday.
Opposing manager Neil Warnock said that his team had offered to put the game back by 24 hours but that Newcastle had said they were fine with the arrangements as they were.
However, he did not feel that this gave his travelling side any advantage because of the high professional standards of the players and the strong home support.
Both sides are in the bottom four and need a win to ease any relegation fears and boost morale.
