Ross Davidson, who starred in a number of television soaps including EastEnders, has died following a battle with cancer.
The actor, who was in the original line-up for the show, appeared as nurse Andy O'Brien opposite Shirley Cheriton, who played his girlfriend Debbie Wilkins.
He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February 2005 and married his wife Barbara three months later.
Keith Bishop, his agent, announced that Davidson died at his family home in Essex yesterday morning.
"Ross had surgery three times. He searched the country for a cure and fought a brave fight," he said.
The 57-year-old also appeared in Hollyoaks, Brookside and Take the High Road.
Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale in EastEnders, said: "I probably played more games of football than scenes with Ross. He was a good man with a great sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye.
"It's a great shame that he has left us after such a long and brave battle, but he always was a fierce competitor. My thoughts are with his family."
