Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has insisted he is not worried by his team's current league position.
The Reds currently sit in 15th place in the Premiership table after their weekend defeat away to Chelsea but do have a game in hand against Newcastle tomorrow, which if they win, will put them into ninth.
However, the Spaniard insisted he was not concerned by league placings at this stage of the season and is more worried about his team's performance.
"This is not the time to be thinking about the league table because as a manager, I need to see if the team is improving and it's clear to me it is," Benitez told the Liverpool Post.
"It's a long race. All we can do is think of Newcastle and the next three points. We will see how high we are later on."
Liverpool's main problem so far this season has been their lack of goals, with just three coming from four league games.
While many fans and pundits have looked towards the manager's rotation system for the root of the problem, Benitez believed it was his side's lack of ruthlessness which had cost them points.
"The key for us is to start scoring goals but after three games away from home, in which we created a lot of chances, I'm sure we're going to start scoring soon," Benitez added.
"The disappointing thing is that we are losing but I have confidence in the team if we keep playing like this. It's clear we need more points but there's a long way to go. It is the beginning of the season."
Defeat against Newcastle tomorrow night would condemn Liverpool to their worst ever start to a Premiership season.
