Pascal Chimbonda's summer-long campaign to engineer a move away from Wigan Athletic looks to be heading for success with the Latics accepting a Tottenham Hotspur bid for the French defender.
The 27-year-old angered both the management and supporters at the JJB Stadium by handing in a request on the final day of last season.
But the "biggest fee Wigan have ever received" - how Tottenham's bid was described on the official Wigan website - should go some way to sweetening the sour taste of his departure.
"I think we have been strong enough to hold out for what we think Pascal is worth," boss Paul Jewell told the website.
"I had a price in mind all along and was never prepared to accept anything less than that. I feel we have achieved that goal."
Chimbonda has only been in the north-west for a single season, but has been so impressive since his £500,000 move from Bastia that Jewell slapped a £6 million price-tag on his defender.
A string of excellent performances won him places in the Professional Footballers' Association team of the year and the French World Cup squad.
