Hull City captain Ian Ashbee has signed a new two-year contract to keep him at the club for a further season beyond the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
Ashbee's future at the KC Stadium was thrown into doubt when he suffered a setback in his bid to return from knee surgery in the summer.
The former Cambridge United captain, who joined Hull in 2002 and has played for the Tigers in all four professional divisions, was forced to undergo an additional operation after complications in his rehabilitation - putting him out until next March at the earliest.
Further doubt was cast over his Hull career when it emerged the club was struggling to break even financially and chairman Paul Duffen resigned from the board.
However, Hull have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Ashbee and that his future was clarified more than a month ago - before the most recent accounts figures were made public.
"The club would like to announce that Ian Ashbee signed an extension to his existing contract on Friday October 9th," a statement read.
"His new contract now expires on Wednesday June 30th 2011.
"Ian continues to work hard in his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury and we look forward to seeing him back on the pitch as soon as possible."
Hull fans will be keen to have their influential midfielder back in action as soon as possible after a worrying start to the current season. The team sit fourth-from-bottom with 11 points from their first 12 games.
