Amy Winehouse has been arrested over claims that she assaulted a man after a night out in London earlier this week.
The troubled singer has been accused by a 38-year-old man of attacking him in the early hours of Wednesday morning and has been held after questioning at Holborn police station in central London.
"A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after attending a central London police station by appointment," said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
"She is currently in custody."
According to reports Winehouse, 24, attacked the man after he tried to help her into a taxi.
A spokesman for the singer had earlier said Winehouse would be "voluntarily attending a London police station by appointment".
The tabloid press claimed on Thursday that the alleged victim is one of three people assaulted by Winehouse during a night out in Camden with Babyshambles guitarist Mik Whitnall.
Winehouse could face six months in jail if charged and subsequently convicted.
Earlier this week the Back to Black singer received three nominations for the prestigious Ivor Novello songwriting awards.
2008 has already seen the singer walk away with five Grammys despite constant allegations of drug-taking and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil being imprisoned on remand on a charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
