Fernando Alonso has blasted the decision to appoint a watchdog for Sunday's title showdown with Lewis Hamilton in the Brazilian grand prix.

The FIA has appointed a person to monitor the McLaren team to ensure it gives fair treatment to both drivers at Interlagos.

Despite McLaren insisted it will be even-handed, the sport's governing body ordered a special regulator in the team's garage.

Briton Hamilton leads bitter rival Alonso by just four points going into the crunch race.

Double champion Alonso fumed that McLaren will be watched during the race.

"It is not up to us, but I don't agree with it - we do not need anything like that in the garage," Alonso said.

"I trust the team, despite what happened in China. As I said there, I was disappointed with the qualifying performance.

"But I realised the tyre pressures were a little bit high, and this can happen in any of the qualifying [stages].

"I just want to think it was a coincidence, a little bit of bad luck, and for this race it should be okay."

Alonso, 26, is expected to quit McLaren at the end of the season after a series of bust-ups with Hamilton and team boss Ron Dennis.
