Tottenham caretaker boss Clive Allen is confident Juande Ramos can save the club's season following the 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

New boss Ramos was in the director's box and saw his side concede a last-minute goal.

Robbie Keane gave the home side the lead before Benni McCarthy equalised with a deflected strike.

In injury-time, Spurs failed to clear and Christopher Samba rifled a shot into the corner.

Allen believes Ramos can turn around the club's fortunes, starting with the clash with Blackpool in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

"It was a real blow because we talked about putting in a performance and I think we did that," Allen told Sky Sports.

"We created opportunities, we had a lead, and it was frustrating to concede, first from a deflection and then the late goal which cost us the game."

"There are a lot of top class players here for Juande Ramos to work with and I think he will take the club forward.

"The lads are in good spirits, I just think we were a little bit fearful in the latter stages."

Meanwhile, Rovers' fifth straight win sees them go fifth in the Premier League ahead of Liverpool.

Boss Mark Hughes, who had been linked with the Spurs job, praised his side's battling qualities.

"You're never quite sure what's going to happen when there's a new manager at a club, never quite sure what reaction is of the players and fans will be, so it was a difficult game in that respect," Hughes said.

"I would have been happy with the draw and then Chris Samba comes up with a fantastic strike.

"We needed something out of this game and I'm delighted to get three points as we have some tough games coming up."
