Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has said that striker Kevin Davies will sign a new contract soon, putting an end to speculation that he might leave the club at the end of the season.
Davies' contract was due to run out at the end of the campaign but it now looks as if the 29-year-old is set to stay at the Reebok Stadium, which Allardyce says is a massive boost.
He explained: "There was always the possibility he would go elsewhere, he is a quality player. But I am glad to say he will put pen to paper on a new contract in the near future by securing his long-term future at the club.
"It would be the biggest boost to this club in a long time. He epitomises everything that Bolton Wanderers stands for."
Davies has led the Bolton line almost single-handedly since his move from Southampton in 2003 and has scored 28 goals in 127 games for the club.
"He is the ultimate professional and, from my point of view, it would be like signing a top-class striker, he is that important to us," Allardyce concluded.
With the capture of Nicolas Anelka in the summer Davies' role in the side has diminished a little, especially with the new arrival banging in the goals of late, but his manager believes he is still important to the side.
Bolton currently occupy a Champions League position and Davies would no doubt be keen to play European football with the Trotters next season.
