Emmanuel Adebayor has apologised for his goal celebration during Manchester City's 4 - 2 win over Arsenal. Adebayor scored City's third goal against his former club at Eastlands and proceeded to run the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the visiting Arsenal fans. Speaking after the match the Togo international was quick to make an apology and claim his emotions got the better of him. "To be honest, I'm very sorry for all this," he said. "Sometimes, the emotion takes over. That's what happened. I was very happy to score the goal. "Before the game, people have been saying and writing things and the emotions took over. People who love me and know me know how I behave," he added. City manager Mark Hughes supported Adebayor after the game claiming he could understand his striker's actions. "To a certain extent it's understandable given the last 18 months or so - there was a lot of pent-up emotion there. "But he's already apologised for it. It's an emotional game and he just let his emotions run away with him. It would be a shame if that incident overshadows what was a great game." Hughes' team took the lead in the first after Micah Richard's header rebounded off the post and into the net off the diving Manuel Almunia. Van Persie equalised for the Gunners, but goals from Craig Bellamy, Adebayor and Shaun Wright-Phillips won the game before Thomas Rosicky grabbed a late consolation for Arsene Wenger's team. Hughes was delighted with his team's win but insisted his team must maintain their level of performance for the whole season of they are to challenge for a place in the top four. He said: "We're delighted, it was a big game for us. "It was important we made a mark today and we did that, we were good value for the win. Now we have to sustain that performance from now until the end of the season." Email Print Twitter Facebook MySpace Stumble Digg Share
