Portsmouth assistant manager Tony Adams was delighted with the performance of his players as they destroyed Newcastle 4-1 at St James' Park today.
Goals from Noe Pamarot, John Utaka, Niko Kranjcar and Benjani Mwaruwari saw Portsmouth end Newcastle's unbeaten home record and they are now fourth in the Premier League.
"It was an excellent performance, with some great individual displays. We kept the ball really well and that was really pleasing," said Adams. "We have made a conscious effort this year to get more points on the road.
"I think our formation, playing with an extra man in midfield, really helps us out. And I thought that we were excellent today."
The form of striker Benjani, who grabbed his eighth league goal of the season today, has been one of the main reasons for Portsmouth's great start to the season.
"I wasn't expecting to be the Premier League's top scorer," said Benjani. "My target was 15 in all competitions so I have seven to go."
He added: "Everyone is looking at us as a strong team. We want to finish in the top six if we can. But we need to keep on fighting."
This was another poor result for Newcastle after they lost 2-1 away to Reading last week and manager Sam Allardyce was not a happy man afterwards.
"Disappointed is an understatement - I am devastated by what has happened here today. I am completely gutted inside," said Allardyce.
