Adam Lambert has insisted he is unconcerned about the criticism of an awards show performance during which he kissed a male band member.
More than 1,500 people complained after the American Idol star kissed a musician during an appearance at the American Music Awards ceremony on Sunday while breakfast show Good Morning America cancelled a planned appearance by the singer.
He was subsequently asked by US network CBS to appear on its rival programme The Early Show and the 27-year-old has since stressed he is not worried about the reaction to his performance.
"I'm not a babysitter, I'm a performer," Lambert told Ryan Seacrest in an interview on the American Idol host's website. "The spirit of rock and roll is alive and well."
Lambert, who sings the closing theme for recent blockbuster 2012, added: "I don't feel like I owe anyone an apology.
"I did something female performers have been doing for years. All of a sudden a guy does it, and it's crazy. I do think there's a slight double standard."
Lambert finished as runner-up on the eighth series of American Idol earlier this year, with Kris Allen winning the talent show.
