Raymond Van Barneveld came from behind to defeat Mervyn King in the second round of the Grand Slam of Darts.
The Dutchman, ranked second in the PDC Order of Merit, fell 4-2 behind early on, but responded superbly to see off King 10-6.
King had gone ahead 3-1 hitting 13 and 12 dart legs, which also included a 121 checkout.
Both held throw to make it 4-2, but Van Barneveld began to frequently find the treble and he moved 5-4 up.
King levelled at 5-5 but missed doubles allowing 'Barney' to move ahead again, and he doubled the lead with a 161 checkout.
An 11 dart leg saw Van Barneveld go 8-5 ahead, and despite King pulling one back, Van Barneveld capitalised on four missed doubles from King to take the fifteenth leg, before hitting a 14 dart leg to seal victory.
Van Barneveld said: "Mervyn played great but I felt the 161 checkout was key for me.
"That managed to put me two legs in front and I am very happy with the win."
Phil Taylor hit back from his round-robin defeat to Vincent Van Der Voort to beat Colin Lloyd 10-4.
A shock looked on the cards when Lloyd matched Taylor blow-for-blow in the early stages, breaking throw in the opening before taking a 4-3 lead.
However, 'The Power' began to find his feet, and improved his scoring and finishing sufficiently to take a 7-4 lead.
He saved the best for last, as he hit an 11 dart leg to seal the double break, and hit consecutive 12 dart legs to earn his place in the quarter finals.
Taylor will now play BDO player Tony O'Shea after he edged out Mark Webster in a final leg decider for a 10-9 victory.
O'Shea had dominated the match, taking leads of 3-1, 5-2 and 7-5 to remain in charge.
However, Webster began to find his stride and went into the lead for the first time at 8-7, and held throw to move to 9-8 and one away from victory.
O'Shea levelled up to take it to a decider, and capitalised on four missed match darts from Webster to hit double 12 for the win.
The final qualifier from Thursday games was Kevin Painter, who ran out a comfortable winner over Kirk Shepherd.
Shepherd kept with Painter in the early stages at 2-2, before a combination of key finishes and heavy scoring took Painter to one away from victory at 9-4.
Shepherd pulled one back but it was to no avail as Painter hit a 180 in the next leg to see off Shepherd and win 10-5.
