Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been voted the 'Sexiest Man Alive' by People magazine, it has been announced.

The 46-year-old, last seen as iconic gangster John Dillinger in Public Enemies, joins Brad Pitt and George Clooney as the only men to receive the magazine's annual honour twice.

"From a sexy swashbuckler in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to quirkier roles like Edward Scissorhands, the 46-year-old star has had women swooning since his days as a teen detective on 21 Jump Street," said People.com.

"Yet it's his devotion to his family that really makes the actor so endearing."

Other stars in the 2009 list include actors Ryan Reynolds, Robert Pattinson and Bradley Cooper, England footballer David Beckham, TV presenter Nick Cannon and singers Adam Lambert and John Legend.
