The 'Lady in the Lake' killer Gordon Park has been found dead in his prison cell, a Prison Service spokesman has confirmed.
The 66-year-old was convicted of murdering his wife Carol in 2005, almost 30 years after he killed her and disposed of her body in Coniston Water, in the Lake District.
It has been reported Park was found hanging in his cell at HMP Garth, Leyland, in Lancashire on this morning.
A prison spokesman said in a statement: "HMP Garth prisoner Gordon Park was found unconscious in his cell at 08:00 GMT on Monday January 25th.
"Staff and paramedics attended but Mr Park was pronounced dead at 09:40 GMT. As with all deaths in custody, the prisons and probation ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
Park was jailed for a minimum of 15 years and Thursday would have been the fifth anniversary of his conviction.
Today was also his birthday.
