Apparently the best band on the planet
US punk band Green Day waltzed off with top honours at the Kerrang! rock awards this week, scooping two gongs.
The band were named best band on the planet, as well as being given the award for best live act by the UK rock magazine.
Green Day have enjoyed something of a revival of late, thanks to their platinum-selling album American Idiot. Their popularity had begun to wane in the early nineties after they failed to match the teenage exuberance of 1994's Dookie.
However, their latest album, which tapped into anti-war sentiment and combined it with the public's current thirst for jaunty pop-rock riffs, has turned them into one of the biggest bands in the world.
Other winners at the London ceremony, presented by movie star and frontwoman of Juliette and the Licks, Juliette Lewis, included Funeral For a Friend, who were named Best British Act.
My Chemical Romance won the award for best video and their Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was named best album.
Best single was scooped by Dave Grohl's band, the Foo Fighters, for Best of You.
The ancient and permed Iron Maiden were inducted into the Kerrang! Hall of Fame, while controversial media puppeteer Marilyn Manson took the Icon award, thanks to his "notoriety that has spread all over the globe".
