Prostate cancer awareness

Friday, 13 Jun 2008 17:33
Not all men are aware of prostate cancer symptoms
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK but awareness of the disease is not as high as it should be.

Last year a survey found that three-quarters of men are unaware or unsure of the signs of prostate cancer and that one-third of men questioned would be too embarrassed to speak to their male friends about their prostate cancer concerns.

In 2004, the number of new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed in the UK reached almost 35,000.

In the webchat below consultant urological surgeon Prokar Dasgupta offers advice on the signs and symptoms of prostate cancer and Liz Adlem, who lost her husband to the disease a year ago, talks about how the disease has affected her life and the need for greater awareness.
