When it comes to innovation and invention Britain boasts a tradition to be proud of, from Fleming's penicillin and Bell's telephone right through to the modern day,

Healthcare, in particular, is an area of which we should be proud and the Innovation for a Healthier Future scheme launched this week, aims to keep the fresh blood of new ideas flowing through the NHS.

It's vital that we keep investing in new ideas, especially in the health sector - towards this end a £220 million fund to encourage innovation within the NHS has been unveiled by Health Minister Lord Darzi. Continuous innovation is vital in maintaining and improving a top healthcare system and since the founding of the NHS in 1948 there have been myriad medical innovations such as the CAT Scanner, Stem cell research and Ultrasound.
