inthenews.co.uk caught up with Dutch drum and bass producers Noisia, ahead of their album launch gig at Fabric on April 9th.
Any city that's twinned with Newcastle might seem like an unlikely source of world class drum and bass producers, but it seems that Groningen, Holland is home to three of them in the form of Noisia.
With their much-hyped debut album Split the Atom about to drop (April 5th) and their latest single Machine Gun tearing up the download charts the Dutch drum and bass trio seem to be staring firmly down the barrel of success.
Nik Roos, Thijs de Vlieger and Martijn van Sonderen, the three members of Noisia, released their first single back in 2003 and a quick look at their biography suggests that since then it's pretty much been constant writing, performing and producing for the Dutch masters.
However, their hard work has paid off in the form of remixing jobs for Moby and the Prodigy, production work on Hadouken's latest album and much lauding from their contemporaries as well as Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe. In short, they've come a long way.
But breaking out of the insular network of their hometown was key to Noisia working on such an acclaimed and diverse range of projects, according to Martijn van Sonderen.
"We've always been involved in things from right across the board genre-wise but we didn't have a specific outlet for it before so couldn't really do anything with it," says Sonderen of the group's early work.
Sonderen is also keen to point out that despite their reputation for producing thunderous, ear-shattering drum and bass the new album will showcase their complete repertoire including breaks and electro influenced tracks.
"We've always made hip-hop and all sorts of 4/4 stuff and our heroes all come from different genres, but now we've decided that we're going to drop our kind of drum and bass only image and just be what we've always been and play all the stuff we've always been making.
"It's going to be a big year for both us and drum and bass, and everything else we're into," he says emphatically and with April lining up to be promising month for the lads you can easily forgive the burst of confidence.
Noisia release their debut album, Split The Atom, on April 5th and have announced that their album launch party has also will take place on April 9th in room 2 of London's Fabric nightclub.
