The BBC's take on The Other Boleyn Girl and some 80s classics on Blu-Ray in this week's biggest movies to hit the DVD shelves.

The Other Boleyn Girl comes to DVD this week, except it's not the version you think. Rather than Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana, here we have the superb Jodhi May as Anne Boleyn, Natascha McElhone as her titular sister and Jared Harris as that most priapic of British monarchs, Henry VIII.

With top UK acting talent on show, this BBC drama gives a pivotal historical moment its due gravitas, unlike the shallow film version.

Also out this week is Female Agents, the movie helped along by BBC4 about the French resistance. This is something of a second world war Charlie's Angels, but – with the inevitable complications of war – not nearly as tongue-in-cheek.

A starry British cast including Anne-Marie Duff, Rupert Graves and Frank Finlay feature in romantic comedy The Waiting Room, a tale of chance encounters and intermingled lives and also hitting the DVD shelves this week.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss, an archetypal indie gem, sees lonely twentysomethings Wilson (Scoot McNairy) and Vivian (Sara Simmonds) thrown together on New Year's Eve thanks to a personal advert.

And finally, there are Blu-Ray versions of two 80s classics released this week in the shape of The Goonies and Gremlins.

So, remember: Goonies never say die and don't expose them to water or feed them after midnight. Gremlins that is. Goonies are probably okay when it's dark.
