Take a Bow for Rihanna!!
inthenews.co.uk's Natalie Gurvitz takes a look at the Umbrella star's Good Girl Gone Bad DVD.
Rihanna returns with her first ever DVD release from the tour Good Girl Gone Bad. The DVD which was filmed at the MEN Arena in Manchester, December 2007 also includes a behind the scenes documentary and an alternative never seen before video for the enormous hit Umbrella.
Good Girl Gone Bad Live comprises the finest of Rihanna musical talent and her astonishing live performances. Opening the show with her debut smash hit Pon de Replay, wowing the crowd with a brilliant soulful rendition of Bob Marley’s Is This Love?, the girl powered Shut up and Drive and the scorching disco grind of Please Don't Stop The Music. As well as performing number of hit singles and even throwing in an enchanting acoustic session to mix up the flavour. Rihanna ends on a high note, with the hit summer anthem, Umbrella. Rihanna definitely gets ten out of ten for crowd pleasing.
Hate her or love her it seems like pop starlet Rihanna will not be going anywhere in a hurry. Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados, the young vocalist got her big break back in 2003 when she met music producer Evan Rogers, who has worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson. Rogers who was holidaying in Barbados at the time heard Rihanna's voice and soon after she was asked to record a demo. Things begun to launch after hip-hop mogul Jay-Z showed an interest in the young upcoming star. Since then she has collaborated with some of the finest in the game including Ne-Yo, The Dream and even the prince of R 'n' B Chris Brown.
She has indeed come a long way since releasing her novelty first single, the reggae-inspired dance floor hit Pon de Reply which reached number two in the UK charts. Rihanna has since then accumulated a countless number of singles, a number one album with Good Girl Gone Bad as well as adding many awards to her shelf. The pop princess is now on a par with Whitney Houston's record for the longest period at number one, surpassing any other female artist in history. Rihanna has outdone most of her peers and has not even left her teens yet.
Truly remembered for her 'ella, ella ay' from Umbrella, the summer anthem of 2007 and not forgetting the must have accessory for the English weather, her massive infectious hit failed to remove itself from the heads of the nation let alone the number one spot for 10 weeks.
She has conquered the musical ladder and is now taking over the beauty industry after just recently being chosen as the new face of Cover Girl. What's next in line for this success story?
Somehow it seems like Rihanna can do no wrong, even as a self proclaimed Good Girl Gone Bad, the Bajan Princess is indeed reaping all the benefits. If being bad accomplishes this for Rihanna, then what's the worth in being good?
Good Girl Gone Bad Live will no doubt please the eyes and ears of all the fans that missed out on this terrific tour.
All that is left to say... we hate how much we love you, Rihanna.
9/10
