Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is to escape prosecution for public order charges relating to an incident at Dublin Airport last month.

The Tudors star was arrested on November 18th after being refused entry to a British Midland flight to London and had been due to appear in court today.

According to Dublin Airport police the actor had refused repeated requests to calm down, forcing the airport security staff to call the Garda Siochana - Ireland's national police force.

He was charged with two counts of violating the Public Order Act and paid an undisclosed cash bail on the condition that he appears at Dublin district court on December 5th.

However a director of public prosecutions (DPP) solicitor told the court today the charges were to be withdrawn and the 30-year-old will be dealt with by the adult cautioning scheme.

Though the Mission Impossible III star did not appear at the hearing, his lawyer apologised for the incident on his behalf.

Michael Staines said: "My client… instructed me to say he absolutely accepts his behaviour was unacceptable and out of character.

"He unreservedly apologises, in particular to British Midland staff, to security staff and gardai."

The actor's arrest occurred just three days before the death of his mother at age 50.

The cause of Geraldine Meyers-O'Keeffe's death on November 21st in Cork, southwest Ireland, was not made public.
