ITV to make programmes available for iTunes download

Wednesday, 23 Apr 2008 00:01
ITV programmes such as Inspector Morse to be made available on iTunes store
ITV programmes such as Inspector Morse and Brideshead Revisited are to be made available to purchase or download from Apple's iTunes store, it has been announced.

As part of a deal which sees more than 260 hours of ITV shows uploaded to the downloaded site, fans will have the change to pay £1.89 per episode before downloading popular programmes such as Captain Scarlet, Cold Feet, Lewis and Jane Austen adaptations Northanger Abbey and Emma to their Mac, PC, video iPod, iPhone or widescreen TV fitted with Apple TV.

Granada Ventures brokered the deal, which is the first time ITV has made its programming available through a third-party website.

"We want to give viewers the opportunity to watch their favourite shows wherever they are," said Dawn Airey, managing director of ITV Global Content.

"ITV has thousands of hours of classic content in the archive which we are bringing to a whole new audience via iTunes."

She added: "Our strategy is to deliver 360 degree value for our content on multiple platforms, and in multiple territories, and our partnership with Apple is a demonstration that we are delivering on that strategy."

The partnership with iTunes follows the launch of ITV's popular broadband service ITV.com, through which some 38 million videos have been delivered since August 2007.

However, no shows currently showing on ITV will be made available immediately.End of story
