Extra Lost series ruled out by show's creators

Sunday, 11 May 2008 19:33
Lost, featuring Evangeline Lilly, has two more series to run
Fans hoping that Lost may be extended beyond the final two planned series are in for a disappointment as extra episodes have been ruled out.

Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof said he and executive producer Carlton Cuse have worked really hard to bring the enigmatic island show to an end and cannot now go beyond that.

He told the Hollywood Reporter that it is "better to retire at the top of your game" than to drag something out.

"Carlton Cuse and I worked so hard to get the show to end that I think to suddenly say, 'Oh, I think we got another season in us' would be a betrayal to everybody involved in the show - but most of all the audience," Lindelof added.

In a teaser for fans, he said the ending of the upcoming season finale would "engage and intrigue people looking forward to the next season of the show".

As a result of the WGA strike earlier this year the 2009 and 2010 editions of Lost will be 17 hours each rather than 16.

The extra hours will compensate for time lost from the current season.
