Doctor Who braced for Pompeii

Tuesday, 25 Sep 2007 12:54
David Tennant and Catherine Tate to travel to Pompeii in new Doctor Who series
Doctor Who's adventures in next year's new BBC1 series will include a trip to Pompeii prior to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

The BBC says that in the episode, part of the fourth series of the new Doctor Who to be shown next spring, David Tennant's Time Lord and his companion Donna (Catherine Tate) will have to decide whether to warn the Roman town's residents of the impending disaster.

In the episode The Thick of It's Peter Capaldi guest stars as wealthy banker Caecilius, a historical figure known to wearied generations of schoolchildren through the Cambridge Latin Course.

"Arriving in Pompeii marks the start of another exciting adventure for the Doctor and Donna," Doctor Who executive producer and head writer Russell T Davies.

"[She] is stunned to find herself in the midst of history's most famous volcanic eruption. Viewers can expect many more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

Among the escapades hinted at by the show's head writer are a time-travelling run in with murder mystery writer Agatha Christie and the return of alien race the Ood in Planet of the Ood.End of story
