Britney Spears' father will remain in control of the singer's assets until the end of the year, a US court has ruled.

James Spears was granted control over Spears' affairs in February when the pop star was twice admitted to hospital after increasingly erratic behaviour.

On Thursday, Los Angeles superior court commissioner Reva Goetz extended the arrangement but said it could end sooner with an update of Spears' behaviour scheduled for the end of October.

Ms Goetz said the singer was "reluctantly agreeing" to the extension of her father's control of her assets.

Last week Spears ended a long-running dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over custody of their children.

The pop star is showing noticeable signs of restarting her career with recent TV cameos and reports that she will begin working on a new album this summer.
