This Is Fake DIY, out now
In a nutshell...
Chilled, calming, melodramatic, lazy, and dreamy.
What's it all about?
The album has 13 relatively short songs with an overall wholesome feeling. The use of the synthesizer in replace of the guitar creates this funky, edgy mood to the album, while remaining easy on the ears.
Who's it by?
The Research is an indiepop trio from Wakefield, United Kingdom. Members include Russell "The Disaster" Searle (vocals/synthesizers), Georgia Lashbrook (bass/vocals), and Sarah Williams (drums/vocals). They formed in 2003 and released their debut album, Breaking Up, in 2006, which received great reviews. Loss, love, and fear are prominent themes in their songs.
As an example...
"I think she's the one I love/I wanna feel afraid of losing something I can't stand to lose." -I Think She's the One I Love
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys?
The Old Terminal has a lot of talent in the album, but is not likely to make a trip to the Grammys because there is no clear distinction among the songs.
What the others say
"... Some of the other songs struggle to really differentiate themselves and tend to blend into ne after a couple of listens. The middle section, in particular, feels like a collection of album fillers, rather than anything as inspired and appealing as the best The Research have to offer." - IndieLondon, Jack Foley
So is it any good?
The Old Terminal is great music if you are in a relaxing mood. It is definitely radio-friendly, but most of the songs tend to sound the same. The lyrics are not too impressive or profound. The more romantic lyrics are simple and sweet, which makes it relatable to any listener. Overall I found most of the songs fun to listen.
