Search and Destroy Records, out now.
In a nutshell.
Pounding, melodic, engrossing, heartfelt and memorable.
What's it all about?
Post-hardcore progressive rock from Portadown in Northern Ireland, Align the Planets is the barnstorming debut album by three-piece In Case of Fire.
Who's it by?
Featuring Steven Robinson on guitar and vocals, Colin Robinson on drums and Mark Williamson on bass, these boys have been receiving rave reviews and blowing audiences away across the UK to date.
In Case of Fire are scheduled to play the Royal Albert Hall with Bullet For My Valentine as part of a concert to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust on March 28th.
Then set to embark on a national tour with Fightstar, the hardcore band set up by ex-Busted member Charlie Simpson, due to be hitting venues across the UK from April 22nd.
Heading out on their own headline tour nationwide from May 12th, featuring an appearance at the Slam Dunk Festival in Leeds.
As an example.
"The state was pulling strings today/Pressing flesh to make him pay/Dead man walking paralysed/By greedy hearts and dirty eyes." - This Time We Stand
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys
With critics salivating with praise about In Case of Fire then this release should bring these boys to national attention. Most likely to early to receive such high recognition, in a few years time In Case of Fire could be setting tongues wagging on both sides of the Atlantic.
What the others say
"In Case of Fire - write down that name, you're going to want to remember it - prove themselves one of the best new bands in Britain. You get a similar feeling to watching Muse back in 1999." - Kerrang
"It's hard to recall a more savage, unerringly brutal debut than this offering. this is stadium-sized rock: combining the theatrical pomp of Muse with the raw power of vintage Therapy, the trio sound like they were born to rawk their way onto playlists all across America." - Planetsound
So is it any good?
Align the Planets kicks off at a relentless pace with This Time We Stand, setting the marker for the rest of the album with pounding bass lines and pummelling drums pounding the senses in a strangely mesmeric manner. Steven Robinson tops this off, letting rip with some of the finest vocals heard for many years in the genre.
If this sets the tone for the coming 11 songs, the album continues to rattle on in fine fettle with the boys dropping melodic bomb after melodic bomb. It is fast and furious but still capable of wrapping its rugged arms around your senses and holding you in a reassuring embrace.
The music in some parts is definitely reminiscent of Muse in their early prime, with the shrieking vocals capturing the memories of their early days. The difference is that In Case of Fire retain a hardcore edge and never give the listener a second to recover from blow after blow, which leaves you a little bit battered, a little bit bruised, but wholly satisfied.
Fans need to ensure they catch In Case of Fire on their forthcoming tour, as next time these boys play nationwide it will be to much bigger audiences and demand for the shows could ultimately blow the roof off.
