Hilary Swank's production company has picked up the rights to French Women Don't Get Fat.

The best-selling lifestyle book details how French women manage to stay slim throughout their lives.

Written by former Veuve Clicquot executive Mireille Guiliano it was a worldwide sensation when published in 2004.

It has been translated into 40 different languages and topped the New York Times non-fiction best-seller list.

The film adaptation is reported to be in the form of a romantic comedy and Swank is said to be considering playing the lead role.

According to a statement from Swank's 2S Films and production partner PorterGeller Entertainment the film will involve a "girl-next-door champagne company middle manager who learns some tough life lessons which help her become the woman she's always wanted to be".

Swank was last seen in Birds of America alongside Matthew Perry.
