Groove Armada: Greatest Hits

Monday, 29 Oct 2007 14:58
The cream of the crop from Groove Armada

Other Reviews

Sony/BMG, out October 29th.

In a nutshell...

All their hits and more.

What's it all about?

Everyone's heard a Groove Armada track, either on a TV advert as used as incidental music. Now this 14-track package, released ahead of a UK tour, allows you to check out the likes of At The River and I See You Baby time and again.

Who's it by?

Groove Armada comprises restless innovators Tom Findlay and Andy Cato, and a steady flow of musical collaborators including Fatboy Slim and ex-Sugababe Mutya.

As an example...

"If everybody looked the same/we'd get tired of looking at each other" - If Everybody Looked The Same.

Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys

It would be nice to see Messrs. Cato and Findlay holding aloft their gongs and grinning like Cheshire cats, as their contemporaries clapped and cheered.

What the others say

"You're guaranteed to find plenty to dance along to, and some just to kick back and relax to." – Indie London.co.uk

So is it any good?

With top-notch material like If Everybody Looked The Same and the Grammy-nominated Superstylin' to the summer hit Song 4 Mutya, it's easy to see how Groove Armada have dominated the dance-crossover scene for the past ten years.

With this greatest hits album you can wallow in all these gems, and skip over the small pool of misfires such as Purple Haze and Lightsonic.

Couple this LP to a forthcoming rarities double-CD and a British tour taking place in November, and it's high time to salute the musical dreadnought that is Groove Armada.

9 /10
